UNStudio’s design proposal for the redevelopment of Athens’ Minion department store envisions it as a new mixed-use centre to spur innovative growth.

Drawing inspiration from the architectural legacy of Athens, UNStudio’s proposal for Minion’s new facade introduces a series of outdoor and indoor balconies that form mini gardens throughout. Referencing late neoclassical and modern-period erkers, these areas become part of the public life of Minion. Here, residents can have a seat and look outside, office employees can meet and connect, or even find a quiet spot to work, and shoppers/visitors can have a break and socialise. An interface between Minion and the street, these ‘new erkers’ add an extra 100 square metres of quality space that reflect the mixed-use programme of the building and create an elegant new visual identity.
